Width

American fridge freezers come in three standard widths – narrow (70-84cm), standard (85-95cm) and wide (96+cm).

Door configuration

Three-door (French-style)

Four-door

A four-door American fridge freezer is very similar to a three-door fridge freezer. The main difference is that it usually has two freezer drawers at the bottom. This means you can keep one door shut while the other is open to minimise cold air escaping unnecessarily.

You’ll find a lot of American fridge freezers come with a water and ice dispenser. This will keep your drinks fresh and cool, which is especially good in the summer months. It’s useful to know that some models will need to be plumbed into your water supply, whereas others need to be filled up manually.

Convertible zones

A convertible zone is a third compartment that you can choose how to use. You can either set it to be an extra compartment for all your fresh goods or, if you’re stocking up on frozen treats, you can convert it to a freezer zone for additional storage.

Glass viewing panel

Some more modern models, such as LG’s InstaView Door-in-Door™ fridge freezers, have a glass viewing panel. This means you can see what’s inside the fridge without even opening the door. In turn, this helps to keep food fresher as you can see exactly what is in the fridge without letting cool air escape.

Door alarms

Many American fridge freezers have door alarms installed which will alert you if a door is accidentally left open or hasn’t been closed properly.

Fast freeze function

A fast freeze function is great when you need to freeze large amounts of unfrozen food. The faster the food is frozen, the better quality it will be when thawed.

Frost free

When you open your freezer door, warm air enters it. Frost-free technology works by having an automatic fan to remove the warm air before it has a chance to condense into water and freeze into ice. This means you won’t have to waste time manually defrosting the freezer.
