Which is the best bed type to choose?
Bed frame buyers guide
Whether you’re looking for a single bed for the spare room or a king size bed for your master bedroom, our bed buying guide is here to help you find your ideal bed. On this page we discuss everything you need to know about choosing a new bed, including the signs that you might need a new bed and the different sizes and types of bed frames that are available.
Do you need a new bed?
If you’re wondering whether you need a new bed frame, think about how long you’ve had your current one and assess how it’s holding up. Some of the signs it might be time for an upgrade include:- Warped, broken or bent slats
- A sinking mattress
- A creaking or squeaking noise when you move
- Splits and cracking in the wood
- Loose, bent or twisted fixings
- Regular sleepless nights despite buying a new mattress.
- Experts recommend replacing your bed frame every 10 years, although it’s more common for people to buy a new frame every 15-20 years. If you think it’s time for an upgrade, here are a few things to consider before buying.
What are you buying your new bed for?
There are many different reasons to invest in a new bed. Whether you’re restyling a room, looking for guest bed solutions or just need a new frame for your growing child, having a new bed can transform a room and help to make life a little easier and more comfortable.
How much are you looking to spend on your new bed frame?
Do you have a certain budget in mind? Start by looking at how much you’d like to spend on your new bed and find something to suit. Make sure you shop for the best value and not only the lowest price. Of course, there are some perfectly acceptable, lower-priced beds available, but well-constructed beds tend to offer better support and comfort.
What size bed is best for you?
Here at Knees Home and Electrical, we have a range of different sized beds on offer. Choose from single beds, double beds, king-size beds, super king-size beds and of course sofa beds too. The bed size you choose will depend on many different factors such as the size of the room, the number of people (or pets!) sleeping in the bed and how easy it is to position your new bed into the space.
Single beds
If you’re a solo sleeper, a single bed is ideal. It’s also a great option if you’re limited for space or just want something small in your spare bedroom for guests. Single beds come in two sizes – 2ft 6 inch or 3ft width. Some manufacturers even have an option to zip and link two smaller beds together to make one larger bed. Double beds
A double bed is great for couples or for solo sleepers who love to spread out! They’re typically 4ft 6 inch wide, although 4ft small doubles are also available. A double bed is ideal if you don’t have too much space in your bedroom and would rather your bed didn’t take up too much floor space. Explore our range of double beds.
King-size beds
A king-sized bed is perfect for couples and gives you both plenty of room to spread out. This means you are less likely to disturb your partner and you should, in theory, get a better night’s sleep. A king-sized bed is normally 5ft wide, so bear in mind that it will take up slightly more space in your room. You can explore our collection of king-sized beds on our website.
Super king-size beds
A super king-sized bed is even more spacious and is perfect if you want to bring some hotel chic to your home. At 6ft wide, a king-sized bed offers plenty of space and makes a great focal point in a large bedroom. They can also be made up of two single mattresses linked together, known as zip- n-link. The beauty of these is you can opt for two different mattress tensions for ultimate flexibility. View our super king-size beds.
Sofa beds
A sofa bed is a fantastic space-saving option. If you don’t have enough space for an extra guest bed, then investing in a sofa bed could be the ideal solution. Plus, they come in a range of beautiful designs, making them a stylish and practical addition to your home. Browse our range of sofa beds.
Which frame type and design should you go for?
The type of frame you choose is entirely up to you. Some people may prefer a lighter-looking frame whereas others may like a more chunky bed frame. You might also want to match your frame with other items in your bedroom.
A new bed frame can really freshen up a room and add a touch of style. Choose a frame with more colour to create a statement, or opt for something more neutral if you prefer a subtle effect.
